Interior and Coordination of National Government Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiang’i has assured Kenyans of enhanced security during the upcoming festive season.
Speaking in Kajiado Central Sub County during the installation ceremony of Senior
Principal Chief Roika Ole Shira, Dr Matiang’i noted that all government agencies involved with security matters remain vigilant and will take up all adequate measures to provide security during the festive season.
“We want to ensure our citizens that we are on high alert and will be undertaking patrols everywhere to ensure that even as they celebrate during the holidays, adequate security will be provided round the clock,” said Matiang’i.
The CS noted that in line with this cardinal duty, the President has directed all personnel at the internal security sector to continue working effectively, with no holiday break to provide security for the citizens.
He urged the security personnel to protect the country noting that the government’s first responsibility is to protect its citizen.
On the same note, Dr Matiangi revealed that the government has put in place strategies to ensure that the National Government Administrative Officers (NGAO) undertake their roles with ease.
The CS said part of the measures include purchase of motor vehicles for police stations and come January 2022, most of the Deputy Sub County Commissioners will also have motor vehicle to enhance their mobility.
At the same time, Dr Matiang’i urged citizens not to throw caution to the wind as threats of terrorism and Covid-19 infections are still there.
“We want to warn all Kenyans to be vigilant as we border countries which have major problems in terrorism. Let us also be cautious and protect ourselves even against Covid-19 which is still with us,” he said.
The CS further urged Kenyans to maintain peace as the country enters into an electioneering period.
Meanwhile, the Senior Principal Chief has risen through the ranks from an assistant chief to the current esteemed position.
Ole Shira now joins 16 others in a similar rank across the country in occupying the much coveted position, filled by the Public Service Commission through a competitive
recruitment process.
