Chinese schools donate artwork equipment to Meru schools

Chinese schools have donated various artwork equipment to schools in Meru County, following an agreement signed between the two parties last year.

Meru County Governor, Kiraitu Murungi, met the Africa-China Culture and Art Gallery Director, Mr Duan Hongliang, who paid him a courtesy call, and donated various items for learners, which will be distributed to 83 schools across the region.

The items included various tools necessary for learning and creations of art, including pencil pouches, balls, pencils, colors, book marks, bags and scrolls, with messages of excellence during learning.

During the meeting, Kiraitu and Mr Hongliang, also discussed interests from investors in Hunan Province in China, who have expressed their intention to visit Meru County to explore trading opportunities in coffee and chili pepper.

They also agreed that the investors will be introduced to local farmers in the ongoing efforts to expand their market for agricultural produce and empower them.

The items were donated by partner primary schools from the Hunan Province of China, in line with the friendship partnership agreement that the County Government Administration signed with Hunan last year, for collaboration and promotion of tourism, trade, culture, education and other areas of mutual interests between the two entities.

“In line with the partnership agreement, my Administration will work closely with Africa-China Culture and Art Gallery, to promote Meru youth and expose their artifacts and creative genius to China and the world, especially through studios and other artwork spaces that will be availed at the Kinoru Stadium, once it is handed over to the County Government by end of January next year.” Kiraitu said.

He said the hand-over process has been delayed by the existing Covid-19 pandemic.

On December 3rd last year, Meru Governor and Mr Xu Zhengxian, the Director-General of the Office of Foreign Affairs in Hunan Province of the People’s Republic of China, signed a letter on the intent of friendship between the people and authorities of Meru County and Hunan Province.

The agreement is aimed at building friendly relations and collaboration between the two jurisdictions, to promote education, trade, agriculture, tourism, sports, art, and cultural exchange and development, among other areas.
