Five legislators from Siaya County have called on the government to review its strategy of countering terrorism to prevent deaths caused by terrorists.
Siaya senator, James Orengo and Members of Parliament Samuel Atandi (Alego/Usonga), Elisha Odhiambo (Gem), Otiende Amolo (Rarieda) and immediate former Ugenya MP, Christopher Karan said the country cannot continue losing its citizens at the hands of terrorists while little was being done to push those behind it out.
They were speaking at Bar Awendo village in Ukwala, Ugenya Sub County during the burial of the late James Oduor Radido, alias Odu Cobra who perished during a recent terrorist attack at Dusit d2 Hotel in Nairobi.
The leaders said it was high time the government acted tough on those behind terrorism.
Atandi called for recalling of the Kenyan troops from Somalia if this was to “bring lasting peace to this country.”
“We cannot keep on losing our people every now and then. If withdrawing our troops from Somali will bring peace, then we have to do it,” he said.
Atandi called on Kenyan Somalis to fully support the war against terror and help the security agents flush out terrorists who seek refuge among them.
Odhiambo said a security operation should be carried out in Nairobi’s Eastleigh estate which he described as the citadel of terrorism.
“The government must flush out the terrorism kingpins and their financiers who operate in Eastleigh if the war is to be won,” said Odhiambo.
She added that the General Service Unit (GSU) and other crack security units should set base in the vast estate that houses majority of Somali community members.
Amolo said Kenyans must fight corruption which, he added, was to blame for the challenges facing the citizens, adding that corruption within the security sector was giving terrorists room to cause mayhem and kill innocent citizens.
Senator Orengo said the country needed a lasting solution to the loss of lives at the hands of terrorism and other killers challenging the government to up its game.
