Gov’t to construct 78 new classrooms in Mwala

A total of 58 public secondary schools in Mwala Sub County are set to benefit from the Competency Based Curriculum (CBC) Infrastructure Development project.

Area Assistant County Commissioner (ACC), Damaris Mutanu, said the 78 new classrooms will be constructed in the next six months to ease the transition of learners from primary school to junior secondary school in 2023.

“The classrooms should be complete by April because the intention is to have infrastructure in place for the CBC and the 100 percent transition of learners from primary to secondary schools, ’she said.

Out of the total schools selected for the project, three schools will get three classrooms each, while 14 schools will get two classrooms. The rest will have only one classroom constructed.

Speaking when she chaired the Sub County Development Implementation Coordination Committee at the Deputy County Commissioner’s board room, the ACC said construction of the classrooms will be done by local contractors as a way of stimulating economic growth in the grassroots.

Mutanu disclosed that so far 51 local contractors had applied for the project and called on more to tender for the work.

“The deadline for the application for the works is November 12 and we are appealing to as many local contractors to apply,” she said.
