146 secondary schools to benefit from CBC infrastructure

146 secondary schools in Nyamira County have been selected to benefit with building of new classes through Government’s Competence Based Curriculum (CBC) infrastructure development programme.

While chairing the implementation and coordination committee, Nyamira County Commissioner, Amos Mariba, confirmed that these classrooms were part of the President’s promise of ensuring that 10,000 classrooms are built in the entire country to cater for the huge number of learners expected to join secondary school under the new CBC programme.

“The government will use a multi-agency approach in ensuring that the programme is implemented as directed and any hitches hindering delivery of quality work must be solved immediately to ensure the programme is completed within stipulated time,” he said.

“Nyamira will construct a total of 204 classrooms in 146 secondary schools which were specially identified by a special team to be in dire need of infrastructural facilities for the ones they have are already overstretched,” Mariba confirmed.

He clarified that the classrooms would be simple but in strict adherence to the structural design sent from the headquarters at a cost of Sh788, 000 per class.

He further clarified that this is an Economic Stimulus Programme (ESP) with an intention to spur the rural economies which were affected by Covid-19 and therefore qualified local artisans operating near selected schools would be given priority in undertaking the structural works.

Nyamira County Director of Education, Margaret Mwirigi, said they would cooperate with all the stakeholders to ensure that the project is completed in record time.

“This programme has strict timelines which are geared towards ensuring that it is completed by April next year, the reason why we are using the multi-agency approach to deliver quality work,” she added.

Ms Mwirigi appealed to school principals of the selected schools to cooperate with the implementation and coordination committee in various sub counties so that the programme is completed as scheduled.

The Presidential Delivery Director (PDU) for Nyamira, Duncan Mwirigi, emphasized that the County Coordination and Implementation Committee would undertake consistent, close and professional supervision at every level of the programme’s execution to ensure nothing less than the expected product is constructed.

The County Commissioner warned that they would not tolerate anyone who would try to sabotage the programme because it was well intended and geared towards ensuring our children learn under the best environment possible so they could also get proper academic foundation to pursue their dream careers.
