The Anglican Church of Kenya (ACK) Archbishop Dr. Jackson Ole Sapit has warned politicians to desist from careless utterances for the sake of peace and unity.
Sapit said any politician who wishes to be elected in office in the next year’s General Election should lead by example by building cohesion of all tribes in Kenya.
The church leader who spoke when he opened a new church branch in Majengo estate, Narok North Sub County said elections will come and go but Kenyans will remain hence the need to live as brothers and sisters.
He asked the members of the public to choose wise leaders who will develop the country saying the voice of the people was in their votes. “The people have the power to choose leaders of their choice. I urge you to choose wisely so that you will not regret afterwards,” warned the Archbishop.
Sapit who originates from Narok County called for soberness when conducting the campaigns and urged electorates to reject politicians with bad records. “We hear politicians nicknaming others in a way to taint them badly in the public image. Such politicians should be avoided at all cost,” reiterated Sapit.
He called for winners and losers to unite after the polls saying whoever wins shall be given the opportunity to serve Kenyans. “The people of this country must remain united even after elections,’’ the clergyman insisted.
Sapit asked the youth to register as voters to enable them participate in next year’s General Elections. “If the process of enhanced continuous Voter Registration (ECVR) closes, then I ask you to visit your constituency offices to register because your vote is your voice,” added the church leader.
Narok County had registered slightly over 33, 000 new voters as per Tuesday this week, which is less than half of the 78, 000 target.
