Nandi County Commissioner Herman Shambi together with Huduma staff conducted a massive clean-up exercise to sensitize the community on the importance of clean environment and solid waste management.
The exercise which was conducted at Kapsabet town and its environs was aimed at ensuring market centers, lorry stations; streets among other public places of the central business are clean and hygienic.
The exercise included the cleaning of gutters, weeding, slashing, opening trenches and collecting scattered garbage. They also ensured they were disposed of well.
Speaking after flagging off the exercise Mr. Shambi urged the traders to take personal initiative of keeping the town clean for their own good.
“Cleaning is good for health and that’s why am happy it was chosen as one of the first activities to be done on customer service week,” he said.
During the exercise the County Commissioner called upon residents to observe Covid 19 directives issued by the Ministry of Health to prevent spread of Corona. Kapsabet Huduma Centre Manager Rachael Nchana took the chance to interact with locals during the event to find out if they are satisfied with the services being offered at Huduma Centre.
“Our Centre is open to everyone, those without IDs, Huduma cards and NHIF cards can come and they will be served well. We also have a health desk that will take care of your health problems,” she said.
Josphat Kemei a Fruit Vendor said he was happy with the exercise adding that they will continue with cleaning and proper disposal of garbage to ensure environment remains clean.
