The Huduma centre in Kiambu County yesterday introduced the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Services (KUCCPS) to its publics so as to take services closer to the people.
Sharon Nzau, the manager of Huduma centre in Thika through social media WhatsApp communications with department heads said that the station would now offer revision of course choices, placement to universities and colleges and career guidance to the form four leavers.
The station initially offered a total of 22 services namely; replacement of IDs , THIWASCO, HELB, certificate of good conduct, health services NCA, NTSA, NSSF, NHIF, CRB, EACC, AGPO, KRA, agricultural advisory services, Kiambu County government (payment of rent and land rates), pensions, issuance of birth and death certificates, registration of self-help groups, police abstract and Huduma numba service, E-citizen and cyber services.
The latest addition is a breakthrough for many form four leavers as earlier, some had complained of slight hiccups while using the KUCCPS website.
Jackline Magana, a senior registration officer at the National Registration Bureau talking from NSSF building in Nairobi attested that Huduma centres have helped ease traffic on matters of ID cards.
“The process of replacing a lost ID card at Huduma centre is faster than in our offices as they use technology; instant fingerprint scanning, as compared to manual filling of forms done at our offices,” said Ms. Magana.
Abstract forms were earlier obtained from the police stations which would be quite a process for some people but Huduma Centres took up the role and have eased the whole process of ID replacement.
Huduma centre has sheltered a majority of Kenyans through the provision of various government services to its publics, and this is a relief as the centres are manned by trained personnel who have the patience to serve the public patiently under the supervision of the managers who are also Assistant County Commissioners (ACC) formerly District Officers deployed by the Ministry of Interior and Coordination of Government Services.
Nicole Kamula, a former student at Kisau girls in Machakos Girls says that the website is reliable but not in all situations. The website in her case did not reflect her second revision of courses only for her to be placed in a college under a course far from her area of interest. She hopes that the manual process would ease the tension and the wait that comes with fully relying on the website.
The service has already been rolled out at various Huduma centres across ten counties namely; Nairobi (Makadara), Eldoret, Meru, Nyeri, Kisumu, Kakamega, Nakuru, Kitui, Garissa and Mombasa.
Faith Kalekye a clerical assistant at Huduma centre in Makadara Nairobi further confirmed the warm reception of this service as many form four leavers flocked their offices in order to be assisted in revision of various courses.
