Business communities from different sectors of the economy have expressed their dissatisfaction after the hiking in the price of fuel in the country.
In its latest maximum pump price review, the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) has raised the prices of super petrol by Sh.7.58 per liter.
While the cost of diesel and kerosene goes by Sh7.94 and Sh.12.97 per litre respectively from midnight, Wednesday.
The litre of petrol in Bomet now will cost Sh 135.72 from Sh 128.14, impacting immensely on small-scale business people and Boda Boda operators who mostly use this commodity.
Operators in the transport sector have raised their concerns terming the increase in price unnecessary at a time when the country’s economy is waning.
The impact is likely going to be felt by operators in the transport sector which will increase the current commuting fee around the country.
Speaking to KNA in Bomet town, residents lamented the increase in fuel prices stating that this was going to make their life difficult urging the government to intervene.
According to Edwin, a driver operating the Bomet-Nairobi route, the hiking of fuel price was very ill-timed.
“The increase in fuel prices was so unexpected, with the state of our economy it will be very hard to hike commuting rates which are the only resolute for us to remain afloat in the business,” said Edwin.
Elsewhere, Boda Boda operators have already implemented new commuting rates within the county.
According to Mr. Dennis Ruto, a boda boda operator, they are now incurring losses instead of making a profit.
The price of food is also expected to shoot as a result of the rise in transportation costs.
