Eldoret’s 64 stadium at 10pc completion

The construction of the 64 stadium in Eldoret town now stands at 10 per cent completion since the contractor started the Sh 1.1 billion project.

Eldoret Municipal Manager Tito Koiyet said, preliminary assessment report indicated that the project was only 10 per cent complete but insisted that construction pace was within course.

“Our main challenge so far has been the rainfall, which has been more than usual and has slowed down the construction works at the stadium over the past two months. We’re however working towards getting around the circumstance and see a best way forward” Koiyet said.

He also stated that the plans to relocate traders from the construction site was in progress to ensure that the exercise was seamless without hitches

“Inspection and oversight are currently being done in conjunction with the department of Roads, Transport, Energy and Public Works and Eldoret Municipality to ensure proper implementation and completion of the stadium,” Koiye said.

The stadium with a capacity of at least 30,000 people, is set to be complete in 2022 according to the work schedule making government officials wonder if the contractor will meet the deadline going by the slow pace of implementation.

The project is partly funded by the World Bank, through the National government and partly by the County Government of Uasin Gishu.
