School receives donation of 300 desks

Ogande Girls High School in Homa Bay County has benefited from a donation of 300 desks and 30 laptops, courtesy of the Ida Odinga Trust.

Ida, who is an alumnus of the school said the donation was to ensure the girls studied in a conducive environment.

She pledged that the school will receive another donation of 500 more desks from a group dubbed, The latter day saints.

At the same time, the spouse to the former premier Raila Odinga donated 50 cartons of sanitary towels to girls at the school, while another group, Queens of the Nile donated Sh288,000 to support the school.

“The sum I received from the Queens of the Nile would be used to buy necessities for the girls since the school has already received a donation of desks,” said Ida, adding that old girls from the school had also contributed Sh.60,000.

She encouraged the girls to dedicate themselves to their academics so as to be successful individuals in future.

Ida expressed concern that 7000 School going girls in Homa Bay County got pregnant during the Covid-19 long holiday and cautioned perpetrators of the vice that the law will finally catch up with them.

Speaking at the same function, ICT Principal Secretary Jerome Ochieng assured that fibre optic internet will be installed at the school so as to guarantee high internet connectivity in the school.

“We need the learners to leverage on computer skills to ensure we meet the demands of the digital era,” Ochieng said.

On his part, Fisheries, Aquaculture and Blue Economy PS Dr. Francis Owino said the government will start an aquaponics farming in the school in the next three months to ensure food security.

Other leaders present during the occasion included Homa Bay Town MP Peter Kaluma, his counterparts Dr.  Lilian Gogo (Rangwe), Antony Oluoch (Mathare) and the area County Commissioner Moses Lilan among other leaders.
