Busia County to adopt government’s family planning policy

The Busia County Government will adopt a Family Planning (FP) Policy by the National Government in delivery of family planning services and commodities to residents, County Director of Medical Services, Dr Janerose Ambuchi has disclosed.

Speaking during a progress review meeting convened by Triggerise Kenya and attended by Busia County Health Management Team (CHMT) members at the Chef West hotel in Busia Town, Dr Ambuchi said the policy which is being formulated at County level while adopting the national Government policy will provide guidance on the running of FP components.

“We have been borrowing policies from the World Health Organization and other countries to come up with a programme to run family planning but we now need to have a policy of our own for guidance of our activities,” she said.

Ambuchi added that the framework should be futuristic to cater for future needs considering that family planning is not a health issue but a developmental agenda that touches on every aspect of life.

The official further emphasized on the need for funding of FP to be ring-fenced to ensure services and commodities are maintained at the required level.

Triggerise Kenya Field Operations Lead officer for Busia County, Stephen Kimani said they are keen on supporting adolescent girls in need of Sexual Reproductive products and services in the County.

“We are glad that for the last ten months we have engaged over 25,000 girls on our platform out of which close to 93 per cent have ended up taking services that are fully subsidized thus meeting the overall goal,” said Kimani.
