The newly constructed Kamukunji Technical and Vocational College, in Eastleigh, Nairobi built by the government at a cost of over Sh53 million to train students in technical courses will take its second intake this September 2021.
The institution’s Principal Mr. Simon Njoroge said the government contributed Sh 43,740,660 million while the Kamukunji National Government Constituency Development Fund contributed Sh 10,000,000 million.
He said the college which is a centre of excellence in hospitality, hairdressing and beauty therapy and fully equipped with state-of-the-art equipment by the government through Avic International Company of China recruits students across the country.
Njoroge who was briefing the Nairobi County Development Implementation Coordination Committee (CDICC) members led by Larry Mulomi from the President’s Delivery Unit and Secretary of the Committee who were on an inspection visit of government funded development projects at the college said currently the college has a total of 88 students, the first batch recruited in January this year.
He said the intake which is pegged on the Kenya National Examination Council Exam is also anticipating to receive a total of 441 students from the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) and 11 others who visited the institution to seek admission.
“We have done branding, we have an active email and a Facebook page. We are hoping to get 100 per cent students recruited during the intake for training across the country,” said Njoroge.
Njoroge who thanked the government for equipping the college with modern equipment also announced that the National Industrial Training Authority has already registered students for exams at the institution.
He at the same time requested the government to provide the institution with computers, printers, laptops and projectors and Teachers Service Commission to post technical teachers for human resource, supply chain, marketing and business courses. Currently the college has a total of 16 trainers posted by Public Service Commission.
“We have 40 students who have chosen Information, Communication and Technology courses and it is hard to teach them theory without computers,” said the Principal.
Mr Larry Mulomi commended the institution for the progress they have done in training and making the place conducive for learning.
He assured the Principal that the government will continue to equip the school with the required equipment to enable students learn effectively.
Kamukunji Technical and Vocational College located at Eastleigh 3rd Avenue next to Airbase Police Post in Kamukunji Sub County, is also an examination centre for Kenya National Examination Council and National Industrial Training Authority.
Courses offered at the institution include food and beverage, hairdressing and beauty therapy, baking technology, business management, human resource management, supply chain management, information, communication and technology, sales and marketing, entrepreneurship development and project management.
