Mega community borehole launched in Yatta

Residents of Kyua in Katangi ward of Yatta Sub County have a reason to smile after the County government of Machakos launched a 2,000 litres per hour capacity borehole.

Speaking during the launch, Machakos Deputy Governor Eng. Francis Maliti said that the Matokeni Community Borehole was constructed courtesy of the County Government in partnership with the Anglican Development Service.

“It’s a new dawn to the wananchi of Kyua in Katangi Ward of Yatta Sub-County as I have today launched Matokeni Community Borehole in Matokeni Village,” said Eng. Maliti.

“Drilled and equipped by the County Government of Machakos in partnership with the Anglican Development Service, this Borehole which has a capacity of over 2,000 liters per hour will address water scarcity across Kyua Location,” added Eng. Maliti.

He further revealed that he had also directed the immediate revival of Kikeniani Primary School borehole, which will serve the school and the neighboring community at large.

The DG who later gave two bright pupils of Kikeniani Primary School an opportunity to ride in his official vehicle while they were being applauded by other pupils and teachers, called on students to dream big, work hard, pray and believe and success will follow them.

“I was impressed by the hard work, motivation and winning spirit of two pupils of Kikeniani Primary School in Kyua, Katangi Ward, who have always excelled in their academic activities,” said Eng. Maliti.

“As a way to motivate them I have given them an opportunity to ride in my official vehicle around the school while they are being applauded by other pupils and teachers,” added Eng. Maliti.

He said that these among other many pupils from across the country are the future leaders and ought to be protected, encouraged and motivated to succeed both academically and in co-curricular activities.

The DG was accompanied by County Executive Member in Charge of Trade and Industrialization, Lazarus Kivuva, Katangi Ward Member of County Assembly, Nicholas Mutuku, County Officer in-charge of Resource Mobilization and Economic Planning, Romana Kimende among other senior county staff.

In July this year, the County government of Machakos launched the rehabilitation of the Ukanga Utune Water Pan in Isinga Village, Kangundo Central Ward.

The construction of the second phase of the pan, which has a capacity of 20,000m3 was rehabilitated within six weeks and at a cost of Sh.19 million.

Speaking during a site handover to the contractor, Machakos Deputy Governor said that would go a long way to benefit the residents who had experienced a perennial water shortage for a long time.

The water pan was rehabilitated by the county government in collaboration with the World Bank through the Kenya Climate Smart Project.
