Garissa County wants committee to manage Water Project

The Garissa County government has urged Libahlo community members in Balambala Sub County to responsibly run the just concluded Libahlo Water Supply Project and ensure that water supply was well maintained and sustained.

Addressing members of the public at Libahlo center during the handing over ceremony, Water CEC Abdi Omar said through a partnership program by the County Government and Water Trust Fund, the Libahlo community will now have clean water supply and fully take over the management of the project.

“This is not an ordinary water project.  It is a solar powered shallow borehole with hybrid system of a standby diesel generator pumping water from the dry river bed,” Omar said.

He added the project had enough water storage tanks and three water kiosks placed at various strategic points for the community to access.

Balambala Deputy County Commissioner Abdiwahid Mohamed and area Chief Aden Hassan are expected to help the community elect a committee that will officially take over the management of the water facility.

The success of getting enough water from Libahlo dry riverbed raised hopes of the successful implementation of a similar project in Madogashe town that relies on the dry Togweyne riverbed.
