Youth from Nandi County have been urged to embrace sports as a profession and business venture that is capable of uplifting their fortunes.
Emgwen Member of Parliament Alexander Kosgey noted that owing to shortage of job opportunities, youth should utilize their time in sports activities adding that it’s the only way to fight poverty and joblessness menace in the region.
Kosgey said participating in sports like football, netball and athletics among others not only ensures the player keeps fit but also enables one to nurture his or her talent.
“It is evident that there are lesser job opportunities nowadays in Kenya. I am appealing to the young people to explore their talents like sporting to earn a living,” he said
Speaking during the commissioning of a new sports center at A.C Tegat Primary School the legislator called upon leaders to nurture and support talents among youths saying it will go a long way to alleviate idling and joblessness in the Country.
“I urge all the youths to fully utilize the pitches in order to uplift and nurture their talents,” he said adding that talent pays.
Education stakeholders present lauded the project saying it has come at a crucial time during the implementation of curriculum competence-based curriculum (CBC) program which has Arts and Sports Science.
They noted that since it was built in a learning institution, it will help in developing talents among students at an early age thus resulting in good performance.
Locals at the event were overjoyed to receive the facility saying they will utilize it well to nurture their talents.
“Since Nandi is a source of Champions, we are calling upon the County government of Nandi to fast track the completion of Kipchoge Keino Stadium so that more youths can use it to explore their talents,” he said.
