The new Huduma Centre Manager in Narok Ms Evelyn Katamboi has urged the residents to come up and collect 2, 947 birth certificates lying uncollected at the Huduma Centre.
Speaking to KNA on Wednesday, Katamboi said the birth certificates have been lying at the Huduma Centre since last year and efforts to reach the owners through the mobile- numbers they provided were futile since they seem to have changed them.
She said they were working closely with the chiefs to help in distributing the documents to residents within their areas of jurisdiction but some of the applicants could not be traced.
“Most of the uncollected birth certificates are for children who were born in the hospital hence it is difficult tracing their background. We request the parents to pick the important document or else we will destroy them,” Ms Katamboi said.
The Huduma Centre Manager observed that 7,614 birth certificates have been processed at the centre since last year out of which 4,667 have been collected.
She said the reduction of the waiting period has also reduced the number of documents being left uncollected at the Huduma Centre in Narok town since some applicants used to wait for the documents for a long time and ended up maybe relocating from the area without picking them or simply got tired of the wait or gave up all together due to distance.
“We have been receiving a very steady supply of materials to process this vital documents from the headquarters and this has even shortened the period required to process these documents. For example, we process birth certificates in less than a week,” Ms Katamboi said.
She said that there is an ongoing automation process at the Narok Huduma center where such applications would now be done online through the E-Citizen website. This will make issuance of the birth certificates instant after application.
In 2017, the government launched the National Education Management Integrated System (NEMIS). This meant that every child that is joining school should be integrated in the system and the birth certificate is one of the requirements.
Students require birth certificates for registration under NEMIS, which is the digital registration of all students who are given a unique identification code that could be used to track their progress at all levels of education.
