Students of Nyamadede Secondary School in Suba South constituency have a reason to smile after Hazina Sacco donated 50 lockers worth Sh200, 000 to the school.
Speaking during the handing-over ceremony at the school’s compound, the Sacco’s vice Chairperson Mcdonalds Obudho noted that the donation was part of the Sacco’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program.
“The process of supporting the school began one year ago after we received a request from the institution and did assessments to determine which areas we could support. We then decided to donate lockers which are convenient for the school,” explained Obudho.
He further stated that Nyamadede is among the first schools to receive such kind of support outside Nairobi region, adding that the Sacco will continue to support educational programs in the country. The school’s acting Principal William Ochieng expressed his gratitude to Hazina Sacco, saying the desks will create a healthy environment for the students and help maintain social distance during this period of Covid-19 pandemic.
The school that was established in 2019 has been dependent on desks borrowed from the neighbouring Nyamadede Primary School.
“This donation from the Sacco has come at a time when we were in dire need of furniture and it will go a long way towards helping the students in their studies,” he said adding that for some time the school had been trying to raise funds to buy the furniture through the community.
The school has a population of 34 students in form two and three, and has not yet been registered by the Ministry of Education.
He further assured that registration of the school with the Ministry of Education was already at an advanced stage.
