New Public Primary School commissioned in Kitengela

The Kajiado county Government has commissioned the first Public Primary school in Kyang’ombe suburb of Kitengela town.

The commissioning of Dr. Likimani primary school and Early Childhood Development centre was highly welcomed by the residents and students in Kyang’ombe area that has been having limited public schools.

Only two public primary schools; G.K Prisons and Utawala were within Kitengela town leading to congestion and subsequent mushrooming of private schools that charged exorbitant fees.

The school draws its name from Dr Jason Likimani, a man of many firsts and fits the bill as a role model. Dr. Likimani was the first Kenyan to be admitted to Makerere University to study medicine and after graduation, he was the first Kenyan doctor after the country attained independence.

He was also among the founders of Amref Flying doctors and thus naming the school after him aimed at motivating the pupils to study hard and excel in their academics.

Speaking during the commissioning of the school, Education Chief Administrative Secretary Dr. Sarah Ruto said the 520 pupils from Pr- Primary 1 to Grade 5 enrolled at the school will receive capitation grant of Sh1,480 each following the posting of the school’s head teacher by TSC.

On CBC, Dr. Ruto noted it requires the involvement of the students, teachers and the parents for it to be successful.

Kajiado Governor Joseph ole Lenku who was present pledged to increase the number of classes in the school in the next financial year to cater for the high demand of public primary schools. “I will continue to support education in the county as it is the most viable tool of empowerment for our children,” said Ole Lenku

During the same event, the governor disbursed Sh50 million for bursaries to assist children from needy families.

A parent, Esther Otieno thanked the governor for granting their requests for a public primary school in the area as they could not afford the high fees charged by private institutions.
