Man Lynched For Attempted Theft

A man who attempted to steal solar panels from a primary school at Nyenga village, Gwasi central location in Suba South Sub County was beaten to death by an angry mob on Thursday night.

The deceased, identified as Fred Otieno Ochare, was found by night guards on duty unfastening the solar panels at Nyenga Primary School.

Homabay County Police Commander Marius Tum said  night guards at Nyenga Primary School while patrolling the school compound found the deceased  unbolting the solar panels and when they tried to question him, the suspect descended from the lamp post and started running away leaving behind a hammer and two spanners.

The guards raised the  alarm and villagers who responded gave chase and intercepted the suspect who was unable to explain why he wanted to steal the solar panels prompting the angry villagers to attack and stone him to death.

His body was taken to Homa Bay Referral morgue awaiting an autopsy.

The police boss cautioned members of the public against taking the law into their hands but instead advised that they should hand over suspects to authorities.

He said investigations into the incident had been launched.
