Some 22 bright and needy students from Mandera North have been awarded full scholarship amounting to Sh3.3 million through the local National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF).
Speaking in Rhamu, Mandera North MP Bashir Abdullahi said they have been sponsoring students from vulnerable families over the last couple of years to the tune of Sh28 million in 2019, Sh30 million (2020) and Sh34 million (2021). so far, a total of 62 students have benefited from the programme since it was started three years ago.
Abdullahi said the government is fully committed in ensuring that all Kenyan children are accorded the opportunity to learn.
The MP urged the benefiting students to work hard in their studies so as to secure a bright future for themselves and also help their parents.
On his part, area MCA Abdi Kulla also urged parents and Ministry of Education to ensure every child gets access to education.
“I want to ask the government to specifically focus on education matters in hardship areas to ensure no child is left behind, with a view to ensuring equal opportunities for every learner,” said Abdi.
