The government has assured members of the public that the relocation of internet infrastructure to pave way for the construction of the Rironi-Mau Summit Highway will not disrupt the provision of internet services.
Government Spokesperson Col. (Rtd) Cyrus Oguna said the Ministry of ICT, Innovation and Youth Affairs in collaboration with the Ministry of Infrastructure, through the Kenya National Highways Authority (KENHA) have devised a mechanism to ensure the internet is not affected.
“The mechanism will ensure zero effect on internet supply during this permanent relocation of the fiber optic cable to pave way for road construction,” he said.
He said the story that appeared Thursday in one of the local dailies informing the public to expect internet interruptions due to the relocation of fiber optic cable was misleading.
The ICT and Innovation PS Jerome Ochieng had earlier explained that the project has been divided into four sections for fast, effective and efficient implementation of the relocation of services and to ensure that there is no interference with the provision of the internet services.
