Kitui Governor Charity Ngilu on Sunday said she will not succumb to the County Assembly’s pressure and drop her manifesto to satisfy their anti-development and self-centered leadership.
Speaking at Mwingi township AIC during installation of Mwingi Area Bishop Rev. Timothy Kituo and Assistant Bishop Rev. Nicodemus Kyuli in a service presided by Presiding Bishop AIC Kenya, Silas Yego, the Governor said it was her wish to deliver her campaign promises to the people of Kitui saying majority of those derailing progress had no manifesto during their campaigns.
Ngilu said she had a duty to deliver to the electorate and dismissed leaders she says have no interest for the people.
“The people of this county elected me because I had a clear five pillar manifesto that I thought if well implemented would provide a paradigm shift realising a positive impact on the peoples’ lives,” she explained.
Ngilu said it was untimely for some leaders to fight her government and rather called for support to implement the development agenda.
She added that Community Level Infrastructure Development Program (CLIDP) was meant to uplift water and health sectors in the county.
She further noted that there was tangible development in the county, that had impacted positively on the lives of the people, especially in the health sector since the launch of Kitui County Health Insurance cover, revival of water sources, improvement in infrastructure, launching of skills and youth development programs, Kitui County Textile centre, artisanal mining and ICT development among other milestones.
“Parents are struggling with school fees because we cannot give out bursaries, which are in the supplementary budget and other key sectors will also suffer. I will not succumb to black mail, if you wish, let’s go back to the ballot and let wananchi decide,” Ngilu dared.
Speaking at the event, former Kitui Senator David Musila and now the chair National Museums called upon Kitui MCAs to consider the plight of the ordinary citizen and support the governor, lest they derail growth in the county.
The Governor was accompanied by county executives Patrick Musau of Youth Culture and Sports, David Kivoto (Education), John Makau (Environment) and the chief officer in charge of health among other county officials.
