Yala Township ward lifts Gem CDF trophy

Yala township ward lifted Gem constituency development fund trophy Saturday, after thrashing East Gem 6-5 during penalty kicks.

The two teams had drawn 1-1 during the regular time during the finals played at Sawagongo High School grounds and watched by among others Siaya Senator, James Orengo and legislators, Otiende Amollo (Rarieda) and Elisha Odhiambo (Gem).

North Gem ward scooped the third position during play offs after dismissing West Gem 5-3 in penalty shootout.

In the girls’ soccer, South Gem was crowned queens after they dismissed East Gem ward 2-0. Yala township took the third position after they whacked West Gem 3-0 during play offs.

Addressing players during the awards ceremony, Orengo said his office will organize a countywide tournament that will see the six constituencies compete for honour in football, netball and volley ball.

“We want to develop soccer, netball and volleyball,” he said.

But before the county tournament, each constituency in the county will form a team and Gem and Rarieda will face each other in a friendly encounter at a date to be announced.

“As we face each other, I will be in the field playing for Rarieda and I want Elisha Odhiambo to also feature for Gem FC during the match,” said Amollo.
