Transparency International (TI) Kenya through the support of UNDP seeks to support journalists from Uasin Gishu County to carry out investigative stories relating to unearthing corruption.
The project dubbed, Enhancing Access to Justice for All, aims at boosting transparent and corruption-free society through good governance and social justice initiatives.
Speaking during a one-day sensitization training at an Eldoret hotel, TI-Kenya Regional Officer for North Rift region Alex Yator underscored the important role media plays in the fight against corruption in all sectors of the country’s socio-economic and political sectors.
He pointed out the need for journalists to dig deep into corruption-related stories to ensure that duty bearers are held to account, adding that TI-Kenya will continue to work with media and other partners in its anti-corruption efforts.
“This project necessitates empowering journalists to track suspected corruption with help from transparency international and community engagement strategies as a new way of eradicating corruption cases in the society.” said Yator.
He encouraged interested journalists from the County to apply for the grant opportunity.
The regional officer emphasized on the need for journalists to venture into investigative journalism so that public interest is served.
