Teachers from Mt. Kenya East have urged the speaker of National Assembly Justin Muturi to go for the presidency while promising to support him.
Led by their Executive Secretary in Eastern Region Caxton Miungi, the teachers said the time is ripe for the region to present their own candidate for presidency position.
The teachers who were represented by their unions officials said they are tired of helping others field candidates for top leadership, adding that the region is equal to the task.
Miungi said Muturi is capable of leading the nation as he has been able to lead the parliament for the last eight years without any problem.
He said once the term for President Uhuru Kenyatta is over, he should handle over the baton to the Speaker.
While addressing the teachers’ union officials from KNUT and KUPPET at his rural home at Kanyuambora in Mbeere North, Muturi said he is equal to the task if they give him support owing to the fact that he has been handling huge controversial issues in parliament amicably.
The speaker said Mt. Kenya East is now ripe for top leadership, adding that initially the region seemed not to have a candidate but currently they have one.
He further said there is no magic in the top leadership and the region is equal to the task.
The speaker called for the teachers’ support for they are in direct contact with residents at grassroots level, adding that teachers’ fraternity are the largest group to reach residents.
Muturi urged the teachers not to fear because of what they are hearing from those opposing him.
The meeting had brought KNUT and KUPPET officials from Meru, Embu and Tharaka Nithi Counties.
