161 people test positive for Covid-19

161 people have tested positive for the Corona Virus disease, from a sample size of 2,805 tested in the last 24 hours.

The positivity rate is now 5.7 per cent and total confirmed positive cases are at 175,337 and cumulative tests so far conducted are 1,866,825.

While giving the Covid-19 situation in the country, Health Cabinet Secretary (CS), Mutahi Kagwe, said that from the cases, yesterday, 158 are Kenyans except 3 that are foreigners. 81 are females and 80 males. The youngest is a two-month-old infant while the oldest is 91 years.

In terms of County distribution; Nairobi has 52 cases, Siaya 44, Homa Bay 11, Mombasa 9, Meru 9, Kiambu 8, Migori 6, Kisii 5, Kakamega 4, Nakuru 4, Kisumu 3, Uasin Gishu 3, Bomet 1, Kericho 1 and Wajir 1.

In terms of Sub- County distribution; In Nairobi the 52 cases are from Kibra, Roysambu and Starehe (5) cases each, Dagoretti North, Embakasi Central and Langata (4) cases each, Kamukunji, Kasarani, Makadara, Mathare and Westlands (3) cases each, Dagoretti South, Embakasi North, Embakasi South and Embakasi East (2) cases each, Embakasi West and Ruaraka (1) case each. In Siaya the 44 cases are from Alego-Usonga (34), Bondo and Ugunja (4) cases each, Gem and Ugenya (1) case each.

In Homa Bay the 11 cases are from Homa Bay Town (7), Rangwe (2), Karachuonyo and Rachuonyo South (1) case each. In Mombasa the 9 cases are from Mvita (8), Jomvu (1). In Meru the 9 cases are from Buuri (3), Imenti North and Tigania West (2) cases each, Igembe North and Imenti South (1) case each. In Kiambu the 8 cases are from Kiambu Town (4), Kiambaa (3), Ruiru (1).

In Migori the 6 cases are from Suna East. In Kisii the 5 cases are from Kitutu Chache South (3), Bobasi and Bonchari (1) case each. In Kakamega the 4 cases are from Lurambi (2), Khwisero and Shinyalu (1) case each. In Nakuru the 4 cases are from Rongai (3), Naivasha (1). In Kisumu the 3 cases are from Kisumu West, Nyakach and Nyando (1) case each while in Uasin Gishu all the 3 cases are from Kapseret. The case in Bomet is from Konoin, the case in Kericho is from Ainamoi and the case in Wajir is from Wajir North.

Distribution of positive cases by age is as follows; 0-9 years (10), 10-19 years (4), 20-29 years (29), 30-39 (43), 40-49 (22), 50-59 (21), 60 years and above (32).

Kagwe said that 177 patients have recovered from the disease, 113 from the Home Based and Isolation Care program while 64 are from various health facilities countrywide bringing the total recoveries now stand at 120,208 of whom 87,401 are from Home Based Care and Isolation program, while 32,807 are from various health facilities countrywide.

“Unfortunately, 14 people have succumbed to the disease, all of them being late deaths reported after conducting Facility Record Audits on diverse dates in the months of May and June. This now pushes the cumulative fatalities to 3,410. Our sincere condolences to the families and friends of those who have lost their loved ones,” he said.

New deaths by age; 0-9 years (0), 10-19 years (0), 20-29 (0), 30-39 years (3), 40-49 years (1), 50-59 years (0), 60 years and above (10).

Cumulative deaths by age; 0-9 years (55), 10-19 years (23), 20- 29 (111), 30-39 years (280), 40-49 years (419), 50-59 years (702), 60 years and above (1,820).

Currently the CS noted that a total of 957 patients are currently admitted in various health facilities countrywide, while 4,796 patients are under Home Based Isolation and Care program. 155 patients are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 29 of whom are on ventilatory support and 106 on supplemental oxygen. 20 patients are under observation.

Another 108 patients are separately on supplemental oxygen with 103 of them in general wards and 5 in High Dependency Units (HDU).

A total of 1,113,158 vaccines have so far been administered across the country, of these, total first doses are 986,881 while total 2nd doses are 126,277.

The uptake of the second dose among those who received their first dose is at 12.8 per cent with the majority being males at 56.4 per cent while females are at 43.6 per cent with Proportion of adults fully vaccinated is less than 1 per cent.

The uptake of the second dose by Priority Groups is that Health Workers 37,362, Aged 58 years and above 33,639, Others 33,125, Teachers 13,384 while Security Officers 8,767.
