Over 136 orphans in Kericho and Bomet Counties benefit from Equity Bank sponsorship

Students awarded scholarships under the Equity Bank sponsored “wings to fly” programme have been challenged to maintain the tradition of academic excellence during their full secondary education course.
Speaking on Monday at Litein Town during a ceremony to flag off eight beneficiaries from the three sub counties of Bureti, Konoin and Sotik, Operations Manager Litein Equity Bank branch Mr. Eric Kirui reiterated the need for those awarded bursaries by the program to be disciplined and maintain top grades in class.
Mr. Kirui said 136 beneficiaries have so far received sponsorships from Litein Equity Bank branch since inception.
Addressing the same gathering Principal Secretary for Vocational Training Mr. Alfred Cheruiyot urged the beneficiaries to work hard and change the fortunes of their families after school.
Kericho County woman representative Florence Bore urged the well to do in society to also give material support to needy students who have excelled in KCPE so that they can actualize their lives.
Wings to Fly programme is an initiative of Equity Bank Group and MasterCard foundation with support from other partners including individuals and corporate organizations. Wings to Fly programme offers scholarships to bright, needy and vulnerable children from all over Kenya.
In addition the scholars are provided with books, uniforms, transport and pocket money. The scholars are also offered mentorship from outstanding role models from the academia, public service, etcetera during their school holidays.
Mr. Kirui at the same time urged guardians and society to provide the necessary mentorship to the students so as to become responsible members of the society.
