Chief Justice (CJ), Martha Koome, has announced plans to establish additional Small Claims Court at the Milimani Commercial Courts to specifically deal with personal injury claims separate from those of commercial nature.
The Small Claims Courts which were launched on April 26th this year to exclusively deal with cases whose claimant value does not exceeding Sh1 million was ostensibly set up for expeditious delivery of justice.
Koome said for the five weeks the Court has been in operation, total of 736 cases have been registered with at least 141 cases heard and determined within the statutory mandate of 60 days within which such cases must be finalized to a logical conclusion.
“Of the 736 cases registered so far, 500 are personal injury claims,” said the CJ.
The CJ was speaking, Thursday, at the closing ceremony for the Induction Training for Adjudicators and Staff of the Small Claims Court led by the Presiding Judge of the Commercial and Tax Division, Justice Alfred Mabeya. It was attended by various stakeholders and the Chairperson of the Law Society of Kenya, Nairobi Branch, Mr Eric Theuri.
