In a press statement released from Nairobi, the governor said local leaders had met education Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i and secured the establishment of the TTC.

The leaders included the governor, Senator Juma Wario, Members of Parliament Ali Wario (Bura), Ali Wario Guyo alias Ali Hashaka (Garsen) and Said Buya Hiribae alias Said Posta (Galole), Woman Representative Rehema Hassan and former Galole MP Hassan Dukicha.

“I have led all elected leaders in our County in a series of high level meetings in Nairobi aimed at putting our beloved county on the map of development and economic growth,” the retired army major said.

“We have secured the establishment of a Teacher’s Training College in our County that will be known as Tana Teachers Training College (TTTC) and the first principal will be posted in April this year.”

Major Godhana said the leaders would decide on the actual location of the institution adding that the three MPs had pledged to contribute funds from their respective National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF) kitties towards the construction of the college.

“Once we land back home, we will together with all community representatives, decide on the actual location of this college. The three MPs have pledged to contribute funds from their respective kitties towards the building and my government will give the rest,” he said.

He said once established, the college would open up the county for development as well as help local youths aspiring to be teachers to pursue their dreams without having to travel to other counties.

“Those of you who have had the opportunity to tour our country know what tertiary institutions of higher learning do to a region once they are established and become fully operational. The benefits are numerous,” he said.

Early this month, the governor visited the University of Nairobi where he was promised that the university would set up a campus in the county.

The only public institution of higher learning with a campus in the county is the Kenya Medical Training College, which opened its gates in 2016 and a number of youth polytechnics.

Currently, the national government is constructing technical and vocational education training centres in each of the three constituencies – Bura, Garsen and Galole.
