Litigants and remand prisoners want the newly appointed judges to fast track backlog of cases in courts countrywide.
Due to the increasing backlog of cases, the litigants whose cases have been pending in courts for more than three years want the judiciary to make proper use of the judges appointed by President Uhuru Kenyatta to address the challenge.
Hellen Jepkorir Limo, whose case has been pending in Eldoret Chief Magistrate’s court, said it is expensive and disheartening for litigants and remandees to pitch camp in courts for more than three years waiting for justice.
Ms Limo has been coming to court since 2018 after her vehicle which was stolen in Eldoret was recovered in Nakuru and two suspects were charged with theft of the vehicle.
She laments that despite having all documents to confirm that she is the genuine owner of the car valued at Sh670, 000 the case has continued to linger due to frequent adjournments an issue which can be associated with lack of manpower to fast-track her case.
When retired Chief Justice David Maraga took over the mantle in 2017 he promised in his six-point blueprint that 365,824 cases, which had been pending for over five years, would be cleared by December. The situation has not changed much.
