Sirisia MP calls for Transfer of security officers

Internal Security Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i and Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet have been asked to transfer all security officers who have overstayed in Sirisia constituency to enhance peace in the region.

Area Member of Parliament John Waluke said many security officers have served in the region for more than 10 years and were colluding with criminals instead of fighting them.

Speaking in Sirisia Waluke said it was high time that Matiang’i and Boinnet transferred the affected officers and redeploy committed ones to fully protect people’s lives and properties.

“I won’t tolerate mischievous police officers who have overstayed in one station for over 15 years. They have failed in their duties and are busy protecting criminals after obtaining bribes from them,” he said.

National Assembly security committee deputy chairman particularly singled out Malakisi police station OCS accusing him of failing in his duties.

“He has failed, he is very rude, he is just a burden to us, let he be transferred to far flung areas like Garissa or Mandera so that he learns a lesson. I don’t need him here,” said an agitated Waluke.

His sentiments were echoed by Bungoma Governor Wycliffe Wangamati who held a public baraza on the same day and demanded an overhaul of all security officers in the region.

“This is barbaric and unacceptable, I can’t allow police officers to kill the same people they are mandated to protect. Let those police officers who have overstayed be transferred to other regions,” said the county boss.

The calls follows an incident where a County government employee George Lumbuku and another unidentified man were shot dead by police last week.

Lumbuku had invited visitors to his home for a pass out ceremony of his son who was circumcised in August when Butonge assistant chief Gregory Wandabwa allegedly called in the sleuths who latter shot the employee dead.

Angry residents later marched into the administrator’s home, set all his houses on fire and vandalized everything.

A Bungoma County official who requested anonymity later confirmed that the second victim who was hit by a stray bullet in the clashes between the police and the angry residents died while receiving treatment at Bungoma County Referral Hospital.
