Kabarnet Municipal Manager Julius Bolei has warned that any livestock found loitering in town especially at night will be confiscated and the owners arrested and prosecuted.
Addressing over 50 business people in his Kabarnet town office who paid him a courtesy call, the town manager expressed concern over the high number of animals grazing within the town freely destroying flowers and other beautification sites while some obstruct movement of vehicles.
“Anyone whose livestock is found grazing or roaming around town will be prosecuted and fined as per the law, this behaviour has created a bad image of our town,” he said.
He advised residents who want to keep cows and goats within residential areas to practice zero grazing or find alternative fields to avoid conflict with existing laws and regulation governing the municipality.
On cleanliness, Mr Bolei asked business people to dispose all garbage at the designated litter bins to facilitate collection by the municipal trucks.
He cautioned local traders against dropping litter haphazardly saying the habit has escalated filthiness especially in back streets, along walk ways and residential areas.
The manager added that improper disposal of garbage was a health hazard, a situation he noted, should be avoided.
“There has been increased poor garbage disposal in Kabarnet town, something which should be discouraged at all cost, we should keep our town clean,” Bolei said.
In the meeting called to brief the business community on the various development projects being implemented by the municipality, Mr Bolei informed the traders and developers that the town was among those in the country that benefitted from a World Bank loan given to National government to advance to counties as grants to help in the development of urban centres.
In the first tranche, he stated, Kabarnet town elevated to the status of municipality after the Urban Areas and Cities Act of 2011 was amended received Sh52 million for use in implementing planned projects.
Mr Bolei said among the projects implemented using the money included construction of market stalls, walk ways and non- motorable ways for pedestrians.
He added that in phase two of the disbursement expected in the next financial year they expect to receive another Sh52 million that has been earmarked to be used to construct a modern wholesale market and a recreational park at the National Museums grounds.
Once the wholesale market is completed, Bolei added, a back road will be constructed to be used by Lorries delivering goods to the market to help decongest the busy Kabarnet-Eldoret highway.
Mr Bolei said that already tender documents for the planned projects are at procurement stage and very soon a contract will be awarded.
