One of ‘Kitengela four’ exhumed mysteriously weeks after burial

Police in Kisumu have launched investigations into an incident where the body of Elijah Obuong, one of the Kitengela friends who were abducted and murdered, was exhumed and stolen.

According to a police report, a group of seven people suspected to be from Uyoma in Siaya County came with a hearse and raided the home of Daniel Obudi where the deceased was buried on the night of Wednesday, June 2.

They dug the grave, removed the body, wrapped it in a polythene bag, re-buried an empty coffin before ferried the remains in the hearse.

Elijah Oboung was laid to rest May 13, 2021 at his aunt’s home against the deceased’s mother’s wish.

Confirming the incident, the Kisumu County Police Commander, Samuel Anampiu, said police were pursuing Caroline Abuong, who is the mother to the deceased in connection with the incident.

“It has been established that among the seven people was Caroline Abuong who is the mother of the deceased,” he said.

The motive behind the exhumation which has left the village in shock, he said, was not clear.

Elijah was in the company of his three friends in Kitengela, Kajiado County when they disappeared on April 19.

His body was found at a morgue in Murang’a on April 29. Hours later, the body of his friend Benjamin Imbai was discovered at General Kago Funeral Home in Thika.

His other friends Brian Oduor,36, and Jack Ochieng, 35 are yet to be found.
