Mama ni Mama Self-help Group has issued school fees bursaries totaling Sh5 million to pupils in various parts of the Country.
Issuing the bursaries to several women groups in Nairobi, the leader of the self-help group and a champion for women and children’s welfare, Miriam Sitima Macharia, thanked government leaders for contributing the money to assist the very needy to pay school fees, a gesture she said has uplifted the lowly in society.
Mrs Macharia assured that the money, uniforms and other items donated will be given to the needy.
In a press statement sent to newsrooms, Mrs Macharia also called upon non-governmental organization leaders to practice high sense of integrity and to ensure that the school fees and development funds they receive is not misused and only utilized on the intended purposes.
She said Kenya is a peaceful country with hardworking and God-fearing citizens and urged Kenyans to pray for peace to prevail in the country, noting that prosperity can only be achieved through peace.
Speaking at the event, the Chairman of the National Council of NGOs, Mr Stephen Cheboi, commended the women leaders for assisting the less fortunate in society, a gesture he said will help those assisted to achieve their dreams in life.
He also cautioned non-governmental organisations against misusing donor funds.
