Kiambu Rape and Robbery Suspect Released

A Kiambu court has released a suspect who allegedly raped a woman during a violent robbery in Kiambaa village of Kiambu County on 400,000 bond with a surety of a similar amount.

Edward Kinuthia Njenga who virtually appeared before Kiambu Chief Magistrate Ms. Patriciah Gichohi denied charges of sexually assaulting the woman after robbing her off cash and personal effects.

He was charged that on 30th May 2021 at Kiambaa area in Kiambaa Sub- County of Kiambu County, he  violently robbed Jackline Njeri Gangai of ksh 6,000 shillings and a mobile phone  worth 13,000.

He also faced a second count on unlawfully having carnal knowledge with the complainant without her consent at the same scene contrary to section 3(1) (a) (b) 3 of the sexual offenses ACT No 3 of 2006.

The accused faced an alternative charge of committing an indecent act with an adult contrary to section 11 (a) of the sexual offenses ACT. No.3 of 2006.

His case was fixed for hearing on 20th July 2021 and will be mentioned on 15th June.

Although the prosecution had objected to his release the prosecution urged the court to impose stringent bond terms that was commensurate with the offense in question.

Six witnesses are lined up to buttress the case whose testimonies are set to be  heard from July 22, 2021.

If found guilty, the accused may serve a life imprisonment sentence on the main charge and an additional of up to 10 years on the second count which could run consecutively depending on his mitigation and the discretion of the court.
