Governor Kiraitu lauds staff for service delivery during his absences

Meru County Governor, Kiraitu Murungi, has promised to implement the remaining part of his election manifesto within a year.

Speaking after returning to his office for the first time since he was diagnosed with Covid-19 about two-and-half months ago, Governor Kiraitu said he is now back to work as usual and with great energy to continue with the agenda of making Meru great.

Before getting to his office, the Governor addressed enthusiastic members of public and a section of his County officers who gave him a warm welcome to the County offices.

The Governor expressed his government’s recommitment to the dream of ‘making Meru great’, a slogan he has been using since he was elected as the County Governor.

He thanked his officers led by Deputy Governor, Titus Ntuchiu, for running the County affairs smoothly in his absentia, saying that this was a clear indication that their government was not a one-man show but a system that works.

“This is a government of systems that work and this means that functions can run as usual even in the absentia of the Governor or his Deputy,” said Mr Kiraitu, adding that this was the kind of government they were yearning for, even in future to ensure there was no development gap at any time.

At one time, a group of young people dubbed ‘Kingángí movement’ called on the Governor to mentor youth leaders by including them in his government so that they can take over from him after he retires from active politics.

To this effect, the Governor promised to help the youth to fight for their political visibility in the County and the Country at large but asked them to work harder for this cause.

“For you to be in these offices, you must commit yourselves and work harder. This is the only way you can get the results that you desire,” said Mr Kiraitu.

He also promised to uplift the future of the young people in the County through economic empowerment considering that majority were affected by the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.

“I know young people working in various sectors have been adversely affected by the pandemic and in this regard, I will be talking to our Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) as well as my officers to consider increasing budget allocation for the youth,” said Mr Kiraitu.
