Infant Dumped in River Ewaso Nyiro

The residents of Ewaso Ngiro area in Narok South Sub County are yet to come to terms with an incident of a six month infant who was killed and left dumped beside River Ewaso Nyiro.

Among the witnesses was Jacob Sairowua who said a herder who was grazing his livestock near the river noticed the body and notified the members of the public who in turn notified the police.

He reiterated that the incident was shocking as the baby boy looked very healthy and had no visible injuries on his body.

“I call upon mothers who give birth to unwanted children to speak out through the children’s office so that the child can be given to another willing family for care. It is a big curse to give birth and later kill your child and dump it in such a desperate manner,” said Sairowua.

The public guessed that the person responsible for dumping the body had the intention of throwing the body in the flooded river so that it could be swept away.

Speaking to Kenya News Agency, Narok County police commandant Kizito Motoro confirmed the incident saying police received information of the abandoned body from members of the public today afternoon.

Incidentally, the body was recovered two kilometers south of the Ewaso Ngiro police station, added Motoro.

“The police visited the incident and found the body of an African Infant aged approximately six months old lying beside river Ewaso Nyiro,” he said.

The police boss confirmed that the body was photographed and later taken to Narok County Referral Mortuary for preservation awaiting postmortem.

He said they have launched investigations to nab the suspects calling on the members of the public to volunteer information to the police that could help in identifying the culprit.

The incident comes only two weeks after another body of a new born child was recovered near the chief’s office in Majengo estate, Narok town.
