A businessman was shot dead by armed gangsters in Enkopiriai in Angata Barrikoi area in the wee hours of Thursday morning.
Confirming this incident, Narok County Police Commander Mr John Kizito Mutoro said the businessman; Richard Nyambegera Mautia, 40 who runs a business in Oldonyolok trading centre was riding home on his motor-cycle with his 15-year-old son at around 1:30 am and on reaching his gate, an unknown number of assailants armed with rifles emerged from the bushes and shot him four times in the upper torso at a close range.
He died on the spot from the injuries sustained as his son ran for his dear life and hid in a neighbor`s house.
Police have launched a manhunt for the killers who escaped under the cover of darkness.
The body has been moved to Kegonga District Hospital mortuary in Gucha in the nieghbouring Migori County pending postmortem and further investigations into the incident.
The entire Trans Mara area has been known to be beleaguered by incidences of insecurity where cases of homicide and inter-clan and inter- ethnic clashes have been experienced in the past.
This has been known to be fueled by disputes over land, pasture, grazing land water among the two main communities living in the area and also with their neighbours in the counties of Migori and Kisii and in some instances business rivalry.
This prompted the government to launch a disarmament exercise in the area more than three years ago where over 100 assorted firearms and ammunitions have been recovered from the larger Transmara area so far.
Many lives were lost, houses torched on both sides of the border of the two sub counties of the larger Transmara and in Nkararo as two clans fought and property worth millions of shillings destroyed.
Peace has also finally returned to Nkararo area in Trans Mara West in the recent past where the two Maasai clans of Siria and Eruasin-gishu fought for over four decades over the land boundary after the government recently issued title-deeds in the area.
