Busia Governor Sospeter Ojaamong has urged those aspiring for various elective positions for 2022 General elections in the County to avoid divisive politics.
Speaking during a fundraising forum at St. Thomas ACK Amagoro Church in Teso North Sub County, Ojaamong said that leaders especially those eyeing the gubernatorial posts should not galvanize the County along tribal lines.
“If Teso region fields a Deputy Governor, the Governor should come from Luhya and vice versa,” he said, adding that such arrangement will help in unifying the county.
He added that his government will continue working closely with the religious institutions and support their infrastructural development.
Nandi Governor Stephen Sang urged the church to work closely with the government.
Sang noted that the church has not taken its right place in the country in terms of offering guidance.
“I want to challenge the church, you are the remote control to this nation, provide the right guidance to the state,” he said.
He at the same time blamed the National government for starving the devolved units by failing to remit funds for the past three months.
Teso North MP Oku Kaunya urged the County security team to address security concerns in the area. Kaunya argued that cases of insecurity in the area were on the rise. “What is worrying is that for the past one month, a watchman was killed at Chamasiri, we had another killing at Angurai with another watchman being killed recently at Kocholya,’’ he said.
He added that cases of theft in Malaba town were also on the rise yet police officers have not arrested any suspect despite exhibits like mobile phones being recovered at the scenes of crime.
The legislator urged the Deputy County Commissioner to be firm and ensure that officers are offering services to the citizens.
