Pay your water bills, Tana River residents urged

Tana River Water and Sewerage Company (TAWASCO) Managing Director William Jilo has asked residents of the urban centres in the County to pay their water bills on time to avoid disconnections.

Residents have been complaining of the perennial shortages of water supply in Madogo and Hola towns.

“Default in payments hinders our operations, we can’t repair bursts water pipe in time if they occur. Our mandate is to supply clean and safe water to urban centres in the Tana River County, which are Hola, Ngao, Garsen and Madogo,” said the MD.

Large infrastructure development is done by the Coast Water Works Development Agency and the County Government who later hand over operations to TAWASCO.

“We have ongoing projects which we are certain will improve the supply of water in the urban centres, drilling of a Large diameter borehole at Emaus in Galole Constituency awaits completion by Coast Water Works Development Agency,” added Jilo

The Managing Director said TAWASCO has written proposals and identifying all areas with water challenges, they will submit the proposals to the Water Sector Trust Fund (Water Fund).

“In Hola municipality, we have a shortage of between 400 – 500 cubic metres of water per day. With the increase in population, the production capacity must increase also. We have redesigned the whole water sector in a bid to improve supply,’’ noted Jilo.

“We source our water from the River Tana albeit cost of production is still high, we are planning to drill large diameter boreholes. We will save a lot of money on treatment unlike the river water, which remain turbid even after treatment,’’ he added.
