Leaders urged to preach peace

Political leaders have been asked to continue preaching peace and unity among the citizenry to promote national cohesion as Kenyans celebrate Christmas.
Speaking in Kitale on the Christmas Eve, Devolution Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa at the same time urged the leaders to embrace the handshake between President Uhuru Kenyatta and opposition leader Raila Odinga that he said has calmed political temperatures in the country.
He said most leaders since then have buried their differences and forged a united force in their working relationships following the handshake.
The CS said that as leaders from the western Kenya region, they will continue to devolve the handshake.
“We are leading by example, I together with Bungoma Senator Moses Wetangula and Amani National Congress (ANC) leader Musalia Mudavadi agreed to work together and burry our differences,” he said.
While wishing Kenyans merry Christmas, Wamalwa disclosed that he has been invited to the Maragoli cultural festival in Vihiga, where he promised to preach peace.
He said the festival will bring together leaders from western Kenya where they will be preaching unity.
The CS advised leaders that instead of infighting between them over politics, they should use the event to fight for their people to realize development.
He called for a united front in seeking for a solution for sugarcane and maize farmers from the region.
Wamalwa said that Kenyans have high expectations from leaders about how they will represent them in finding a solution to the ailing sectors and he urged the task force formed by President Uhuru Kenyatta to find a solution to the maize crisis to deliver results.
“Sugarcane farmers are still waiting for the task force that was formed to solve the challenges facing them,” he noted.
