Motorcyclist died in accident in Narok

A cyclist died on the spot when his motor-cycle crashed into the rear of a tractor at Narianta area along the Narianta – Nakuru road in Narok North sub-county.

Confirming the accident, Narok County Police Commander Mr John Kizito Mutoro said the motor-cyclist identified as Bernard Kimutai, 25 was headed to Nakuru from Narianta when he rammed into the rear of a tractor at about 5:30. He died on the spot.

The body is lying at Narok Referral Hospital mortuary awaiting postmortem and further investigations into the accident. Police have launched a manhunt for the driver of the tractor who escaped.

Concerns have been raised over the safety of motor-cycles as modes of transport in the country. They are said to flout traffic rules with impunity including failing to wear helmets and reflector jackets which could help save lives.

NTSA has blamed an increasing number of road accidents fatalities on reckless driving while drunk.  Kenya loses 3,000 people to road accidents annually thus placing it among the countries with highest rate of road accident fatalities in the world.
