Red Cross distributes face masks, sanitizer to Muslims in Mandera

In a move to help Muslims adhere to Ministry of Health protocols to contain Covid-19, Kenya Red Cross has distributed 2500 face mask and 50 litres of sanitizer to all mosques in Mandera East Sub County as Muslims celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr after a month of prayer, devotion and self-control.

Speaking after the distribution exercise, Mandera County Red Cross Branch Manager Mr Somo Hassan urged all Muslims to follow Ministry of Health covid-19 protocols to curb the virus’s contagion and follow to the letter all guidelines set by the county government and stakeholders on the eve of Eid-ul-Fitr for the same purpose.

The celebration is accomplishment of Muslims sacred duties of fasting period during the holy month of Ramadan with the beginning of Eid-ul-Fitr, today.

“Everyone carried his praying mat and put on a face mask and maximum of two hours’ interaction and social distance were also observed. Hand washing facilities were made available at the congregation ground,” he remarked adding prayers were conducted at eight agreed centres including Geneva sports grounds, Duse primary school, and Masjid Noor, Masjid Jamia, Masjid Khadijah, Rowla, Imam Dhahabi, and Main Masjid Busle mosques.

The National Government deployed two Public Health and Police Officers to each of the eight grounds to enforce adherence to the protocols.

This is the second year in a row for Muslims to celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr with limited social gathering due to Covid – 19.
