Self-help groups in Lugari urged to diversify business activities

Self-help groups in Lugari Sub-county have been challenged to engage in various business activities for socio-economic development.

Cosmas Kidaha, the Coordinator of Muyuji Welfare Group, said diversification provides alternative sources of income for the members.

He disclosed that the group has ventured into agricultural value chains, table banking and hired catering services.

The Coordinator was speaking at Malaika Salvation Army Church, during the distribution of topdressing fertilizer to members.

He said through the education promotion initiative, the group has managed to support dozens of students from the area up to university level.

“We do not want to see children of our members missing school due to lack of fees and so we give support from primary to the highest level of education a child can manage,” he stated.

Kidaha added that they intend to expand the inputs programme, starting next year by providing support from planting to the harvesting as a way of promoting food and nutritional security.
