The country on Tuesday lost another 21 patients to Covid related infections further pushing the cumulative fatalities since the pandemic was reported to almost 3000.
The latest deaths now bring to 2,928 the number of people who have so far succumbed to coronavirus related complications after the first case of the highly contagious disease was confirmed in the country last year.
Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe in a statement over the status of the pandemic in the country however said only three of the latest fatalities occurred over the last 24 hours while the rest were happened but were not recorded on diverse dates within the month.
“three having occurred in the last 24 hours, 16 on diverse dates within the last one month and 2 are late deaths, reported after conducting facility record audits’ he said.
He at the same time announced that 356 people have tested positive to the COVID 19 disease from a sample size of 4,424 tested in the last 24 hours.
Our positivity rate is at 8.0 percent and from the cases today 329 are Kenyans while 27 are foreigners.

Cumulative deaths by age; 0-9 years (54), 10-19 years (20), 20 29 (104), 30-39 years (244), 40-49 years (377), 50-59 years (625), 60 years and above (1,504).
Today’s positive cases has seen 200 males and 156 are females with the youngest being a two-year-old-child while the oldest is 93 years.
The Total confirmed positive cases are now 163,976 and cumulative tests so far conducted are 1,725,546.
In a press release on the Covid-19 situation in the country, Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe said that distribution of positive cases by age is a0-9 years (10), 10-19 years (19), 20-29 years (51), 30-39 years (80), 40-49 years (84), 50-59 years (45), 60 and above (67).
In terms of County distribution; Nairobi has recorded 95 cases, followed by Kisumu 51, Mombasa 46, Kisii 18, Kericho and Nyamira 15 cases each, Kitui 13, Kiambu, Homa Bay and Kilifi 11 cases each.
Kakamega have recorded 7 cases, Trans Nozia, Uasin Gishu and Siaya 6 cases each, Nakuru 5, Bungoma and Tharaka Nithi 4 cases each, Nandi and Laikipia 3 cases each, Elgeyo Marakwet, Kwale, Machakos, Meru, Murang’a, Wajir, Nyandarua, Nyeri, Taita Taveta and Turkana 2 cases each, Vihiga, Baringo, Embu, Garissa, Migori and Makueni 1 case each.
Tuesday, the CS in the statement says that 129 patients have recovered from the disease, 65 from various health facilities countrywide while 64 are from the Home Based and Isolation Care.
Total recoveries now stand at 113,057 of whom 82,203 are from Home Based Care and Isolation while 30,854 are from various health facilities.
A total of 1,105 patients are currently admitted in various health facilities countrywide, while 4,749 patients are on Home Based Isolation and Care. 128 patients are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 23 of whom are on ventilatory support and 76 on supplemental oxygen. 29 patients are under observation.
Another 91 patients are separately on supplemental oxygen with 85 of them in general wards and 6 in High Dependency Units (HDU).
As of today, a total of 921,546 persons have so far been vaccinated against the COVID-19 disease countrywide. Of these 281,704 are aged 58 years and above, Health workers, 161,271, Teachers 144,434, Security Officers 77,772 while 256,365 are in the others category.
