Kirinyaga Governor, Anne Waiguru, says she was excited to see Legislators overwhelmingly pass the BBI Bill last week.
Waiguru said it was amusing to see even those Members of Parliament (MPs) who were opposed to the document come to their true senses and vote yes.
The Governor said she had been described as a lone ranger when she single handedly drummed support for the document in the Mt Kenya region as others turned mere spectators.
“I had carefully read this document and fully understood its contents hence my support right from the onset as others from our region saw me negatively on the stand I had taken since they had not read or seen it,” she said.
Speaking at the PCEA, Kagio town Church within her tuff where she joined worshipers, Sunday, Waiguru said it is encouraging to see some MPs who were very opposed to the Initiative changed their mind upon reading the document and voted yes.
“I don’t blame those who started criticising and opposing the initiative which was mooted soon after the famous handshake between President Uhuru Kenyatta and the ODM Leader, Raila Odinga, for they had not taken time to look at the document,” she told the worshipers.
The Governor also urged the Senate to pass the document overwhelmingly as the National Assembly did last week.
“Once this document becomes law, our County will be receiving Sh 8.2 billion up from the current Sh 4.2 billion meant to develop all the 20 Wards in our County, pay salaries and other recurrent expenditure,” she said.
Waiguru revealed that at the moment the County can only able to disburse Sh 100 million bursary with an average of only Sh 3,000 per applicant due to the many needy cases.
She noted that once the BBI is passed, Kirinyaga will be able to increase the amount to Sh 500 million.
The Governor at the same time enumerated the various development projects her government had accomplished despite the many challenges she encountered soon after being elected in 2017.
The County Boss said within the period, her administration had built 13 modern markets across the area, while plans were underway to do some more to make 20 within this financial year.
Waiguru said Sagana Health Centre would be upgraded to an emergency facility due to its unique location on the ongoing construction of the Kennol-Marua dual carriage road.
