Police in Eldoret town have been on high alert after armed robbers attacked and injured a businesswoman in the area.
Following a tip off from the public, police followed the three gangsters along Mandago road on Monday night and after a brief chase, they gunned down one of the criminals, but the other two managed to escape.
The officers followed them from Kipkaren after numerous efforts to stop them failed, and on reaching Mandago road the criminals shot at the police and after a fierce exchange of fire one of the gangsters was shot dead.
Speaking at the crime scene where one of the suspects was gunned down, the County police Commander Ayub Ali said that the suspect was found with one firearm and 47 bullets.
“This person had ammunition in his pockets, and an AK-47 rifle has been recovered,” added Ali.
He however noted that the businesswoman is recuperating at a health facility in Eldoret town.
Possession of illegal weapons and robbery with violence has been rampant in the area, and this creates an enabling environment for crime to thrive in the county.
