Residents of Chuka town woke up to a rude shock after a body of a student was found dangling on a mango tree near Tharaka Nithi County Commissioner’s residence early today morning.
The body of Linus Gitonga, a form three student at Kiamuriuki Secondary was spotted by a street urchin early in the morning as he was looking for mangoes about 200 metres from the administrator’s residence, who informed some passersby and then alerted the police.
Residents told KNA that the lad, whose education had been sponsored by PCEA Chuka town church, had sometimes back bought a rope and threatened to commit suicide but was counseled by some church leaders.
“He could have been stressed by his parents who have always had disagreements to the extent of fighting in public,” said Dennis Mwiti, a neighbour.
Chuka Igambang’ombe OCPD, Benson Makumbi said investigations had been launched to establish what could have made the 18-year-old student take away his life.
“We are investigating the matter to establish what transpired before the student reportedly took away his life,” Makumbi said.
The body was taken to Chuka County Referral Hospital mortuary.
