Kabura Residents in Homa Bay Decry Power Outage

Residents of Kabura South in Homa Bay County have incurred heavy losses due to power outage that has lasted one month.

The power shortage was caused by a breakdown of a transformer at Amoyo Trading Center, West Kanyadoto location in Ndhiwa Sub-County.

The traders who sell perishable goods have particularly suffered more due to lack of refrigeration services, while most barber shops and salons have since ceased operation.

“The situation has forced me to use solar power in my barber shop but the solar panel I use is not reliable,” decried Mike Oyare, a barber operating in the locality.

Another barber, Alphonce Oyoo, said it has become difficult to feed their families because the outage rendered many of them jobless.

“We rely on electricity to conduct our businesses. The power failure has left me and other people without an income,” he lamented.

The blackouts also have further heightened security concerns with traders being forced to close early fearing attacks by thugs while walking to their homes.

The residents, therefore, appealed to Kenya Power to intervene and salvage the situation.

When contacted, Ken Okumbe, an Officer-In-Charge of Kenya Power in the County promised to look into the problem.
